Turning 30 in Èze Village
So, dear readers, I kind of totally freaked out about turning 30 this year. Age is just a number, sure, but how had 30 years flown by? There was still so much I wanted to see, do, accomplish, and eat!
I felt like I celebrated my 21st birthday just yesterday, but it was, in fact, almost a decade ago.
Plenty of excitement filled my early twenties. I studied abroad in Paris and explored a bunch of new cities in Europe. I graduated college and landed my first job at a social media agency. I packed up my car and moved cross country to San Francisco, where I knew only one person. (Hi Megan! Fun fact: Megan introduced me to Kevin, and later served as the world’s best officiant at our wedding. So, if you’re moving to a new city and Megan’s the only person you know, fear not – you’re in GREAT hands.)
After a few years in San Francisco, though, I started losing myself a bit. I was spending too much time working under fluorescent office lights, and not enough time exploring the city, cooking healthy meals, practicing yoga, and doing other things that I love. I wasn’t traveling to new places as much as I wanted to, and my camera was collecting dust beneath my desk. And writing? Forget about it. I was exhausted. All. The. Time.
Ready for a Change
I needed a major change to shake things up. Even though Kevin and I drunkenly pinky promised each other years ago that we’d move to Europe after our wedding, it still felt like ages away.
It was therefore a combination of feeling antsy for change and crazed about turning 30 that inspired us to set an aggressive goal in October: celebrating my 30th birthday in March while living abroad.
TL;DR? Life is short, and it flies by if you’re not paying attention. If you’re not filling your days doing the things you love to do, and being with the people (and furry creatures!) you love to love, then maybe it’s time to re-evaluate.
Which is a long-winded way to explain how I found myself in Èze, France, with my favorite human, on my 30th birthday, feeling invigorated and very grateful for this life.
